Katheryn LaMuriel Sharp

Katheryn LaMuriel Sharp, lovingly known as LaMuriel and "Mowo" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on September 24, 1938, in Madisonville, TX, to Truett and Louise (Jones) Wester, LaMuriel was a lifelong Texan whose greatest joys were her faith, her family, and the simple blessings of home. She graduated from Madisonville High School and, on March 23, 1957, married the love of her life, R. Datus Sharp. Together they shared a devoted marriage until his passing. LaMuriel embraced her calling as a homemaker, banker’s wife, mother, and grandmother. She created a home filled with love, kindness, grace, and unwavering support for those she cherished. Nothing brought her greater happiness than spending time with Datus, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She found joy in all the many daily excursions she and Datus enjoyed together whether it involved hunting, fishing, golf or the horse races - they were devoted to each other. She was the ultimate caretaker and loved tending to her flowers, watching the birds outside her window, and appreciating God’s beauty in nature. Her Madisonville High School yearbook described her as “An All-American girl that radiates joy,” a sentiment that remained true throughout her life. She greeted each day with a warm smile, an optimistic spirit, and a generous heart. One of her greatest pleasures was giving gifts at Christmas and on birthdays, finding as much joy in giving as others found in receiving. LaMuriel is survived by her daughters, Jeri Sharp Smith (Red) and Jill Sharp Vaughan (David); her grandchildren, Nicole Pearson (Matt), Emily Kain (Ron), and Luke Vaughan; her great-grandsons, Sam Donoho, Ryder Kain, and Jack Kain; her cousins, Jeannie Jones Wood (Gary) and Jan Cole Pigford (John); and many other extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, R. Datus Sharp; her parents, Truett and Louise Wester; and her brother, Jerry Wester. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11AM on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at First Methodist Church in Madisonville, TX with Rev. Jim Jackson officiating. A private interment will follow at Madisonville Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside the husband she loved so dearly. Following the graveside service, family and friends are invited to gather for a reception at The Woodbine Hotel. Those who knew LaMuriel will remember her gentle heart, quiet strength, unwavering faith, and unconditional love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and always remembered for her faith and devotion to her Christian faith. The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers who compassionately cared for LaMuriel throughout her journey. Their kindness, dignity, and devotion brought great comfort to both her and her family. The greatest gift she gave her family was not found in what she owned, but in the love, faith, kindness, and example she shared every day. She lived her life with grace, love, and joy—she lived life well.
