Jimmie Louise (Tims) Vernon

JIMMIE LOUISE (TIMS) VERNON March 4th, 1945 – March 11, 2021 Born in Huntsville, Texas to Ida Pearl (Dryman) Tims and James Wesley Tims, Jimmie was a proud Huntsville Hornet class of 1963. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Lawrence Ray Vernon, 2 children, Robert Vernon and Cheryl (Vernon) Taylor, Cheryl’s husband Robbie, and their 2 children, Catherine and Christine, as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends from everywhere she went. Jimmie loved animals, and spent much of her time and energy rescuing feral cats, finding good homes for them (sometimes in her own home). She also enjoyed karaoke, singing with friends and family whenever she could coax them out (even being present at the karaoke night when Cheryl met Robbie). She loved music and meeting people, and nobody was a stranger to Jimmie for very long. Through the karaoke web site SingSnap, we have been able to preserve her voice and hear it at her service in remembrance of her joy in singing. Jimmie loved the natural world, and for years, fed a friendly family of raccoons at her home. Deer also found a free meal in Lawrence’s garden there, but they weren’t as welcome. She loved the wildflowers that grew in the front yard at their home in Foxfire, and planted 2 pear trees from her daughters wedding that are still flowering. Her own favorite flowers were yellow roses, yellow daffodils, and, of course, Texas bluebonnets. Jimmie also had a great passion for genealogy, and a great love of her deep Texas roots. She traced so many people’s family lines, it sometimes seemed there wasn’t anyone unrelated to her! Which probably explains why she treated everyone like family. Jimmie even produced an entire book on her family’s history, after traveling the state to get the information all together. She had friends all over the country, which she traveled to see in places as far away as Alaska and Mississippi. She could romp around a cemetery in pretty much any part of the country and find someone who might be a relative, and would usually prove it with a little research. For the last couple of decades, Jimmie worked in various call centers in Bryan/College Station, and the odds are that if you work in any call center in the area today, you work with someone who knew Jimmie, and remembers her fondly. She was a joy to know, and made the world a better place for being in it. When Jimmie found out that she had cancer, her first thoughts were for her beloved animals, and in memory of her, we would encourage everyone to donate to BCS Spay/Neuter Project to continue to do the work that she loved and help animals live a better life.
