W.R. (Dude) Goodrum, Jr.

W. R. Dude Goodrum, 88, of Madisonville, Texas passed away November 18, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 9, 1929 in Madisonville, Texas to Willie Ruben and Ocie Mae Goodrum. Goodrum joined the Air Force in 1946 where he was a Tail gunner. He served for 2 ½ years before returning home to work the family farm. He was a member of the International Operators Local 450 for 30 years. He loved to rodeo (we have been told he was born in his blue jeans). He was a well-known Ranch Boss for a rodeo producer for many ranchers in the Brazoria County area. In 2001, he was inducted into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame. In 1989, he and Joyce opened Papa and Gaga’s Little Critters and ran it for 28 years. He was “Papa” to all of his daycare kids and loved each of them dearly. His love for horses and kids brought him back to Madisonville in the 80’s. Goodrum is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joyce; brothers Sonny Goodrum, Wayne Goodrum and wife Carmelita; sons Earl Goodrum and wife Ginger, Shayne Goodrum and wife Michelle, Michol Goodrum and wife Misty; daughters Linda Morgan and husband George, Pam Brooks and husband Jeff, Bev Upham and husband Denny, Laura McGiboney, Danyett Dickey and husband Willie Earl; 22 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. Goodrum was preceded in death by his parents Willie Ruben and Ocie Mae Goodrum; brothers Kenneth and Buddy; sisters Joe Wardip, Bell Thrash, Ocie Mae Oppermann, and Blanche Shaw; sons Jimmy and Andy Goodrum; grandsons Bubba and Phillip Goodrum, and Micheal Mitchell. Visitation is set for Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Day Funeral Home Chapel in Madisonville, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10am, Monday, November 20, 2017 at the Cowboy Church of Leon County with Pastor Tuffy Loftin officiating. Interment will follow in Jozye Cemetery, Madisonville, Texas. Serving as Pallbearers will be Micheal Upham, JimBob Hildreth, Cody Gooodrum, Wayne Mitchell, Cayden Goodrum, Gerry Sutton, James and Blake Hildreth, Gatlin Steele, Matt McGiboney, Nick and Tanner Goodrum. Honorary Pallbearers will be Vernon Guidry, Gary Lindsey, Harvey Cannon, Billy Burnett, Neil Lindsey, Jeff Brooks, George Morgan, Denny Upham, Ashley Goodrum, and Jerome Klawinsky.
