Barbara Ann (Clark) Henson

Barbara Ann Clark Henson, lovingly known to family and friends as "Gigi," entered the presence of her Savior after a life marked by unwavering faith, boundless love, and joyful service. She was born on August 29, 1931, in Hagerman, New Mexico, to Fred Holmes Clark, Sr. and Hazel Ernestine Langenegger Clark. Born during the Great Depression, Barbara's early years were shaped by perseverance and resilience. Her family moved to the Aspermont, Texas area in search of work before eventually settling in Denison, Texas, where she spent her childhood and young adult years. On June 18, 1949, Barbara married the love of her life, Arthur Monroe Henson. Their marriage of nearly 73 years was a beautiful testimony of love, faith, and commitment until Art's passing in May 2022. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Fred Holmes "Buddy" Clark, Jr.; her beloved husband, Arthur Monroe Henson; and her son, Fred Arthur Henson. She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Marie Thames and husband Buddy; her son, David Carl Henson and wife Darlene; her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Henson; six beloved grandchildren: Paula Jeanne Russell and husband Billy; Paul Damon Thames and wife Marcie; Stefanie Erin Maslowski and husband Nick; Rebecca Carol Moutray and husband Chris; Rachel Ann Henson; Justin McClain Henson and wife D'Lynn; and eleven treasured great-grandchildren: Zane Andrew Russell, Jace William Russell, Blake Nathan Russell, Micah Ann Thames, Claire Marie Thames, Paul Henson Thames, Erin Elissa McKinney, Kaylee Drew McKinney, Jacob Arthur Hull, Hardy McClain Henson, and Hank Monroe Henson. At the age of five, Barbara gave her life to Jesus Christ, a decision that shaped every day of the nearly 95 years that followed. She never hesitated to share the saving grace of Jesus Christ with anyone who would listen—and often with those who weren't planning to. Her faith was genuine, contagious, and unwavering. She was a devoted prayer warrior who faithfully lifted family, friends, missionaries, and countless others before the Lord. Barbara had a special heart for those who were often overlooked by others. She championed the underdog, extending kindness, encouragement, and generosity to people from all walks of life. She faithfully supported numerous mission efforts through both prayer and financial giving, believing deeply in sharing the Gospel around the world. Throughout her life, Barbara wore many hats. She worked as a hairdresser, was employed by the telephone company, drove a school bus, and gracefully managed the many relocations that accompanied Art's railroad career. Wherever life took them, Barbara's priority was always finding a church home where her family could worship, grow spiritually, and serve alongside fellow believers. Children held a special place in Barbara's heart. She found great joy in teaching four-year-olds in Sunday School, serving in Vacation Bible School, singing in church choir, and nurturing young hearts to know and love Jesus. Her influence reached far beyond her own children, touching generations of families through her faithful service. Music was one of God's greatest gifts to Barbara. An accomplished pianist, she taught herself to play and cherished every opportunity to make music. In a bold move for a young wife in the early 1950s, she purchased her first piano on credit, paying for it with earnings from her job at the telephone company. That same piano remains a treasured part of her home and life. Even at the spry old age of 94 her grandchildren and great grandchildren encouraged her to play for them. Her caregivers and her physical therapist would push her up to the piano in her walker and she would play … from memory … until she couldn’t hold herself up any longer. On her last trip home from the hospital, the last thing she asked the doctor was if she was still going to be able to play the piano. Nothing delighted her more than hearing family members sing, join the choir, or learn to play an instrument. In her later years, many mornings began with Southern Gospel music and messages from her favorite preachers. Barbara's greatest earthly joy was her family. She never tired of telling others how proud she was of each child, grandchild, and great-grandchild, delighting in sharing their accomplishments and the unique qualities she loved in each one. Her encouragement, prayers, and unconditional love will remain a treasured gift to those she leaves behind. To everyone who knew her, Gigi never met a stranger. She had a remarkable gift for making people feel seen, loved, and prayed for. Whether through a warm conversation, a song at the piano, a heartfelt prayer, or simply opening her home and heart, she left an unforgettable impression on all who crossed her path. She also found great happiness outdoors, spending countless hours tending flowers, working in her yard, and cultivating her garden. Until a debilitating stroke limited her abilities, Barbara remained actively involved in her church and community, always looking for another opportunity to serve. Over the last ten years of her life, Barbara was richly blessed by the loving care and faithful companionship of extraordinary caregivers. In her final years, Jennifer Nixon, Lois Price, Theresa Davis, and Kathy Simpson became so much more than caregivers—they became cherished friends. Their kindness, compassion, patience, and unwavering devotion brought Barbara great comfort, dignity, and joy each day. The love they showed her was a precious gift, not only to Barbara but also to her entire family, who will always be deeply grateful for the exceptional care and friendship they so generously shared. The measure of Barbara's life was not found in what she accumulated, but in the countless lives she pointed toward Jesus, prayed over, encouraged, and loved. Her legacy will continue through the generations she faithfully nurtured, the children she taught, the missionaries she supported, and the family she cherished beyond measure. While her family grieves her absence, they rejoice in the assurance that she is now whole, healed, reunited with her beloved Art and those who have gone before her, and forever in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The family also wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice Brazos Valley for the compassionate care and support they provided to Gigi.
