Services will be held for Irene Long Wilson on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Day Funeral Home Chapel in Madisonville, Texas. Mrs. Wilson passed away on February 25, 2009, in the Madisonville St. Joseph Hospital at the age of 94 years. Interment will be at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Leon County, Texas. Irene Long was born October 31, 1914, in Jewett, Texas to Oscar and Cora Alice Long. She was one of nine children. Irene attended Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas and began a career of teaching. When she taught at Elwood she met M.J. Wilson whom she married on June 1, 1939. She and her husband lived in Midway while she continued to teach until the birth of her son, Mike. Shortly later, twin daughters, Brenda and Linda, arrived and they moved to the Leona area to start a dairy business which they continued until 1969. Irene enjoyed raising cattle along with her husband, M.J., and was an avid gardener. She spent many hours in her garden and loved to share the bounty efforts with family and friends. She loved her family and grandchildren very much and always enjoyed their visits to see her. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Cora Belle Lacey, Lillie Lee Wilson and Mary Long; brothers, Ernest Long, Aaron Long, Q.V. Long and Baxter Long. Survivors include her one sister, Modene Long West of New Iberia, Louisiana, her three children and their spouses, Mike and Melinda Wilson of Centerville, Brenda and George Plemons of Corsicana and Linda and Daryl Herrmann of Brenham; eight grandchildren, Aaron Wilson and wife, Casey, Amy Wilson, Asa Wilson, Michael Herrmann, Alice Plemons Blazek and husband, Jason, April Plemons, Ashley Plemons and Amber Plemons; four great-grandchildren, Baily, Bradey and Brooklyn Blazek and Gracie Truell. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend, Shirley Mosley, who was her caregiver for the past few years. Pallbearers are Aaron Wilson, Asa Wilson, Michael Hermann, Bill Wilson, Robert Lacey and Jason Blazek. Honorary pallbearer is Joe Wilson.
