The History of the Day Funeral Home in Madisonville, Texas
In 1903, J.M. Day Sr. and John R. Burtis opened a furniture store, which included a funeral parlor on the north side of the square in Madisonville, Texas. In 1940, when J.M. Day Jr. took over the operation of the businesses, he moved the funeral home to its present location at 514 East Main Street, the old "Day Home Place," which was constructed in the late 1800's. It is now the oldest house in Madisonville, and is one of the oldest structures in Madison County.
Day Funeral Home has recently been remodeled and has a chapel with seating for 300.
