Tula Marie Taylor Lee, 91, died Monday September 5, 2011 at her home in Cross.

Born in the countryside of Madison County near Pleasant Grove Church, Tula Marie was the oldest daughter of Albert and Willie Taylor. After graduating from Iola High School, she married Willie R. “Bill” Lee and moved to Grand Prairie. She later moved back to Grimes/Madison County and lived there for several years before moving to Huntsville. She also lived in League City and Bryan before finally moving back to the family farm in Cross where she was born.At one time, she was employed in the school cafeteria in League City and much to the joy of all her family learned how to make the most wonderful yeast rolls. She was a homemaker and loved to work in her garden. Tula Marie was member of Pleasant Grove Baptist church, a children's Sunday School teacher and loved to attend "singings" with her husband Bill.  She was also active in Eastern Star. She was a wonderful loving mother and a "big sister" to all of the Taylor Family.

Tula Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Bill, parents Albert and Willie Taylor, sister Thelma Lanehart, brothers-in-law William Lanehart and Dan Walker and son-in -law, John K. Dowling.  She is survived by her brother Doyle Taylor and wife Celia of Gilmer, Texas, two sisters, Nadine Harvard and husband Robert of Monroe, LA, and Maurice (Polly) Walker of San Antonio, daughter Doris Dowling of Cross, and two sons Ron Lee Sr. and wife Diane of Amarillo and Kenneth Lee Sr. and wife Ann of Bryan.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren, John W. Dowling and wife Kay, Becca Simons and husband Christopher, Steven Dowling and wife Cheryl, Ron Lee II and wife Megan, Kaytlin Lee, April Lee and Kenneth Lee Jr., eleven great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

The family owes a great deal of gratitude to Christopher Simons, Joni Mayes and Velma Melton for the many hours of love and compassionate care they gave to Marie during the last few years of her life – we could not have kept her at home without you.

Funeral Services will be Friday September 9 at 11 a.m. at Willowhole Chapel followed by graveside services at The Willowhole cemetery. Afterward friends and family are welcome at the family farm for lunch.

Nanny was the sweetest lady. She will truly be missed but she is in a much better place now. She's up there with your Dad and mine and happy that she's back with her husband again. God will take care of her now. My prayers are with all of you and please let me know if I can help in any way. Love you all!
