James Hartwell Turpin, 79, of Madisonville passed away May 27, 2010 at Madison St. Joseph Health Center.  Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Day Funeral Home Chapel.  Bill Jeter and Carey Scott will officiate.  Burial will be Tuesday, June 1, 2010 in Forest Park – Lawndale Cemetery in Houston. 

James was born March 13, 1931 in Houston, Texas to James Arthur Turpin and Annie Mae Hale Turpin.  James was a faithful Christian of Highway 90 Church of Christ.  He served in the Military Police in Korea during the Korean War and was a third generation Ironworker with Local #84.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Sallie Grabow Turpin; his sister, Barbara Ann Browder; brother, John Turpin; grandson, Robert Glen Turpin, Jr.; great grandson (infant) Caulin Andrew Lynch; mother-in-law, Sara Rhodes; and sister-in-law, Bea Whitten.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Kathryn Turpin; children, James Edward Turpin and wife, Alice; David Turpin and wife, Debbie; Robert Turpin and wife, Tina; Ronnie Turpin and wife, Darlene; Ronnie Norman and wife, Brenda; Mark Norman and wife, Dana; Jan Caldwell and husband, Bill; Patty Lynch and husband, Andy; brother-in-law, Harold Whitten; sister-in-law, Wanda Miller and husband, Mickey.  He is survived by 20 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. 

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Harold Whitten, Randall Karber, Buddy Roane, Robert Hampton, Val Pfeffer, and Wesley Fails. 

We will miss him deeply; His passion for Christ as it is revealed in Psalms 7:17 “I will praise the Lord according to His righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the Lord most high.”
