Nina Faye (Adams) Adkins, 81, of Madisonville passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010 in Madisonville.  Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Friday, April 23, 2010 at Day Funeral Home Chapel in Madisonville.  Lanier Stevens will officiate.  Burial will follow in Mount Tabor Cemetery.  A visitation is scheduled from 11:00 – 1:00 prior to the funeral service.   

Nina was born December 18, 1928 in Madisonville to George and Ethel “Lowry” Adams.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry Adkins; her brother, Kenneth Adams (who died in the 1947 Texas City Disaster); and her sisters, Mozelle Wehmeyer and Imogene Gannaway. 

Survivors include her sister, Rita Bunker and her husband Eddie; her brother, Thomas “Bub” Adams; her nieces Paula Staley, Dianne Harmon and her husband Tommy, and Rhonda Smallwood; her nephews, Donnie Gannaway and his wife Donna, George Robert Gannaway and his fiancé Leah, and Gus Wehmeyer and his wife Anna; and her best friends for over fifty years, Dee and Rod Blue. Nina was a survivor of the 1947 Texas City Disaster which claimed the lives of over 600 residents of Texas City.  She was a member of The Lady’s Auxillary of American Legion Post 554.  For many years, Nina rode in The Salt Grass Trail Ride which is a part of The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.  She was an accomplished “42” player winning many tournaments at Madisonville Manor.  Having no children of her own, Nina was a very loving aunt treating her nieces and nephews as her own children.
